How it works
Designed at night, installed to disappear
Lighting can only be judged in the dark, so that is where we design it. Then we install it to be seen at night and unseen by day.

Lighting is designed in the dark. We walk the property at night to see what wants lighting, the trees, the facade, the paths, the patio, and how the light will read both from inside the house and from the street.
- Installation
Low-voltage fixtures, a transformer sized to the system, and buried wiring, installed so the fixtures do their work at night and all but disappear by day. Clean runs, hidden hardware, and light aimed where it belongs.
- Maintenance and adjustment
Over time, plants grow into the light, aims drift, and lamps age. We adjust, clean, and replace as needed to keep a system looking the way it did the first night it came on, and can fold that care into a maintenance program.

Frequently asked questions
What kinds of fixtures do you use?
It depends on the effect. Path lights wash a walkway; uplights and spotlights aim up at trees, walls, and architecture; downlighting mounted high in a tree casts a soft, natural moonlight pattern; wash lights spread even light across a facade or hedge; well lights sit hidden in the ground; and step and deck lights are built into stairs and rails. Most designs combine several so the property is lit in layers rather than flooded.
Is low-voltage lighting safe and efficient?
Low-voltage systems run on a fraction of household voltage through a transformer, which makes them safe to work around in the landscape, and modern LED lamps draw very little power for the light they give. We size the transformer and wiring to the system so it runs reliably for years.
Can lighting be added to a landscape I already have?
Yes. We can design and install lighting in an established landscape, working the fixtures and wiring in around existing beds, trees, and hardscape with minimal disturbance. We will walk it at night first to plan the effect.

Good landscape lighting is nearly invisible by day. Fixtures are low, tucked into beds, set in the ground, or mounted high in trees, and wiring is buried, so what you see in daylight is the landscape, and what you see at night is the light, not the fixtures.
